Medieval Graduate Conference 2015: Colour

CALL FOR PAPERS: 11th Oxford Medieval Graduate Conference 2015: Colour, St. Edmund Hall, Oxford, 17 – 18 April 2015. Sponsored by the Society for the Study of Medieval Languages and Literature.

The conference is aimed at early career scholars and graduate students working in medieval studies. Contributions are welcomed from diverse fields of research such as history of art and architecture, anthropology, history, theology, philosophy, literature and history of ideas.

This year, the conference theme is Colour.

Suggested topics might include, but are not limited to:

History in Colour:
* The Black Prince
* Heraldry
* The Black Death.

Material Culture and Colour:
* Wall-Paintings
* Embroidery / Tapestries
* Jewellery.

Scientific Colours:
* Skin Diseases / Treatments
* Optics / Lenses
* The Four Humours.

Colouring Manuscripts:
* Illuminations
* Changes in Colour
* Codicology and Colour / Rubrics.

Art History and Colour:
* Stained Glass
* Digital Imagery and Colour
* Restored Colours
* Colour Symbolism.

Colourful Literature:
* The Green Knight
* Descriptive Colours
* Red with Anger / Green with Envy
* Colours and Rhetoric.

The registration fee is expected to be £15. There will be a conference dinner on the first night; it is hoped that this will cost in the region of £25.
